Service Hours

Parents of Lutheran High School La Verne students contribute 25 service hours (per family) per year. Activities ranging from Booster Clubs to Guilds to working in the Lutheran High Thrift Shop all help support the LHSLV programs. The importance of the family is emphasized at LHSLV, and parents' participation in the school helps strengthen the family unit.

The Lutheran High Thrift Shop is run entirely by parent volunteers and is open Monday thru Saturday from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. It is located at

You can help Lutheran High by purchasing scrip.

What is scrip?

Scrip is a paper certificate or a plastic gift card that you can use to purchase items just like using cash.  The difference is that when you use scrip, Lutheran High receives a percentage of your purchase.

How does it work? 

Lutheran High purchases the paper scrip you want from a national organization called Scrip Advantage.  SA works with retailers across the country to purchase the certificates at a reduced rate.  Lutheran High then purchases the scrip from SA at the reduced rate and the savings become our profit as we sell the scrip at its face value.  For example, a $10 dollar certificate costs you $10 and is worth $10 dollars, but Lutheran High keeps the difference, therefore benefiting the entire school population.   

How does my scrip purchase benefit Lutheran High?

When you buy scrip, the money we gain through sales is deposited directly into the bank.  Then it is allocated to pay for school supplies, athletic and science equipment, textbooks, and other necessary items, like fuel for the bus so our teams can travel.  Scrip helps our students succeed by allowing the school greater access to more resources.

How do I buy scrip?

There are actually three types of scrip programs currently in use.  

• The first type of scrip deals with the paper certificates and plastic gift cards.  These can be bought at Lutheran High any day of the week and may be purchased out of stock on hand or through a pre-paid order.  These certificates are to be treated as though they were cash and are available to many of your favorite merchants.  
  
• The second program is the eScrip program.  This program registers the credit and debit cards which you already have with a scrip company named eScrip.  Whenever you make a purchase with your credit or debit card at a participating retailer or merchant, eScrip will automatically deposit a portion of your purchase into our bank account.  You are charged nothing to sign up for or take advantage of this program.  Since there is no cost to you, and you would be using your credit or debit card anyway, there is no reason not to sign up.  To sign up online, simply go to www.escrip.com , go to sign up.  Our group ID # is 4920647.  It's so easy, it only takes a few minutes of your time, and you'll never have to think of it again.  If you are already registered with eScrip, you can change your designated school of support or split your support.  Go on line or contact Mrs. Matthews.
  
  
• The third program involves checkout scan cards.  We will receive a percentage of your purchase when you use your scan card at  Albertson's, Kmart, or Vons.  To pick up your Albertson's or Kmart cards contact Mrs. Matthews.  To register your Vons card, you simply add it to your registration with eScrip.  Like the eScrip program, there is no cost to take advantage of this means of support.
  

Also Redeemer and Mt. Calvary Churches have graciously offered to sell our scrip between services on Sundays.  If you attend either of these churches, you can pick up Lutheran High Scrip on Sundays.

Remember, scrip only works if you use it. 

So plan to use scrip whenever you can, as often as you can.   It's just like cash when you're shopping and Lutheran High benefits.  

Scrip is also great as gifts.  So when it is time for you to thank those special people in your life, give scrip.  It works for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, or anytime you have an event.  Remember your children, your parents, siblings, friends, or even the teachers.
